2022-02-24:
Fri:
Worked on the characters, wrote up my questions for Sean.
Christina wasn't in, it was snowing pretty hard in the morning. Nothing much
new.
Went shopping, found cat food at Aldi and went out to the tractor supply,
there was cat food there. Yay, my kitties can continue to eat as they
expect.
Saw my parents, came back here.
No calls, not that I would have many any on a Friday night to begin with.
Put stuff away. Called the lady for tomorrow to ask if she did, in fact,
want tomorrow. She did not. She's going to call me when she's ready. Neato.
As this is supposedly setting up her phone I'm not sure how waiting helps
anything, after a couple of weeks your phone is your phone, in my mind.
I will have to do the driveway and some cleaning tomorrow by the looks. Is
it spring yet?
Checked sites.
Got the PC in but the adapter cable, because it only has display port, needs
$4.00 in postage before they'll deliver it. Thanks, sender! Moron. The
shipping was supposed to be free. The order total was $3.61. So now I have
to pay more than the item was worth in shipping. Thanks. Can you say
negative review? I knew you could! Or at least neutral I guess?
Talked to Sean about my questions. Hopefully his notes will be updated
accordingly. I'm not sure about the current magic system, to have all 9
"components" we'll call them requires you to have 9 cards out of your 40.
That's about 1/4. Given they can only do one thing, be combined with other
similar cards to produce magic, while other cards can have a variety of
uses, I'm not sure magic would be worth it. Especially given how few spells
any magic user is likely to have. For example say I took the "bodybuilder"
vocation. I could use that as a strength card, a modeling card, a speaking
card, intimidation, fitness knowledge, maybe more I only just thought of
those. But that's five uses for that one card off the top of my head. Making
a hand gesture is just that, a hand gesture. Needing 3-4 of them for any
spell means my hand of cards is mostly these hand gestures (that are useless
by themselves). I would need at least 2-3 copies of each to be sure I had a
decent chance of getting them out of my 40 card deck meaning 3/4 of my cards
are just hand gestures. I better have at least one spell per card for it to
be worth anything.
Then we watched a movie.
Sat:
Did the driveway, belt came off several times. Maybe snow was getting in
with most of the screws out? I've put them all back in, I guess the next
snow we'll see how it goes. It seems tight on the... we'll they're not
gears. They should be gears, but no. Spools? What do you call the things the
belt goes on? Anyway, it seems tight I got the right belt. But it still came
off. Strange. No way to increase the tension that I can see, either.
Went to the post office, picked up my package.
Checked out the PC, came through the mail fine despite being very badly
packed. It's pretty fast, thank you non-serial ATA based flash! I think
she'll be happy.
Cleaned up the house.
Then lunch and more supernatural.
My parents come for the movie, we watched Avatar. All three hours of it.
One more supernatural and went to bed.
Sun:
Went over to see the lady who wanted tutoring. That went fine. Unlike a
certain dentist guy I could name, she just wanted basic stuff like how to
attach something and she already understands what a folder is. She wasn't
trying to use apps I had never heard of or use three different printers or
whatever else the certain person always wanted me to do.
Lunch.
Made pie.
Then more supernatural. Finished it forever.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Watched a few Arrested Development episodes, I never saw the last season of
that and I'm trying to finally get my "watch list" down to nothing.
Called the lady I have the PC for. No answer.
And then Ellen, my favorite person. Actually she emailed me to call her at
8:00 but then called me a few minutes before. She says her ebay labels are
printing too small, but sadly had no label to print so I could see what
should could be doing wrong. So what am I supposed to do in that situation?
Exactly.
Mon:
Nothing new yet at work, though I did read over some files pertaining to a
meeting we're having tomorrow at 9:00. It's for a new feature catching us up
to other manufacturers about having a scan button that doesn't work. I spoke
about it earlier I think if you recall. When I emailed a whole list of
questions like "what about this, and this, and the security implications"
that was never answered. I mean these are $10,000 office printers not $100
home units. The market just isn't here for this feature. But whatever. We'll
see what the meeting is about.
Otherwise I just worked on notes for the new book. Got two and a half pages
done, basically everything I had thought of so far for it. Now I just need
much more plot. I suppose if I was better writer I could explore the human
condition and what might happen to a society freed from death and material
want because there is no scarcity in the afterlife. But I don't know that I
could pull that off.
Went to good will, got nothing. So went over to savers. Got one thing for
the game and a pony plush. Slim pickings.
Back here, no calls, but Ellen sold stuff so I can call her about her
printing issue.
Ate dinner, checked sites, and watch more arrested development.
Called the lady for the PC. She said tomorrow would be fine.
Ellen, despite emailing me to call at 7:00, which I did, did not answer. So
that's about right. You're welcome.
She called me back, twenty minutes later. She had fallen asleep. Yes, at
7:00 PM. Great. Oh, and her problem? She had selected landscape instead of
portrait and this defeated her.
Tues:
Happy 2-22-22 everybody!
Had a meeting at work, not much I could contribute though. Talking about the
new scanning button feature and how much work it's going to be. Don wanted
to consider it, then at 3:00 emailed me and said he had been in too many
meetings and had I considered it and could I write up my considerations for
him. Remember, his two testers are me and Christina. How does he have so
many meetings to manage two people? I guess he must do other stuff? Anyway I
noted down my thoughts before I left.
Otherwise I just worked on notes for the next book. Got a bit further in
them.
Went to deliver the PC. And she wanted a laptop so that was a quick one. Did
I not ask? I'm pretty sure I did. So great. I'll probably sell it elsewhere
of course but it's still a waste at the moment, and a half hour of driving
which you know I love.
Came back here, had dinner, checked sites, and finished up A.R. Time to move
on.
Ordered a laptop for the lady.
And there was a call, a printer setup that I think he just has to choose the
printer but sure, I can drive out there. Why not.
Wed:
Had the meeting about the new tests, he liked all my stuff (naturally) but
knocked my estimate for testing time down by a bit. Apparently he, unlike
myself, doesn't know about the planning fallacy. Weird. Anyway, who cares, I
have to be there so testing this for two weeks or three really isn't that
much different from my point of view. It's not like I'm recording time per
project or anything so no one cares after the initial number is given.
Making me wonder why it matters at all. This moving money around the company
is just so foreign to me. It's all the same company. It's Xerox. Who cares.
Anyway, thought about that and more book plot, both of which I added to
today. All good.
Went out to see printer guy. Oh, it's fine? I drove another half hour for
absolutely no reason? Neat, it's fine because that's my favorite thing ever.
It is! Especially when it's 20 degrees outside.
Got back here, checked sites, got a call from york about their email again.
Yay, running your business off yahoo mail and windows server 2009. I think
it's 2009, it's ancient. I'm honestly shocked their hardware continues to
work to this day.
Ate dinner, the usual stuff.
Thurs:
Fairly busy today. The usual meetings of course, because why not. Also spent
some time loading D4.0 on a machine and making sure cards worked, as I knew
they would. Something about a customer getting D7.6 to work with them but
not D4.0? Okay, if you say so. Anyway, they did work.
We should get a new build to test, quickly, on Monday. It's a very short
turn around so I hope it works. It's a minor feature but still.
Made more notes on the new book, still don't think I have a whole book's
worth it's only been three seasons. I would like it to be a year at least so
we'll see how it goes.
No job so I came home. Checked sites, ate dinner, the usual. Huh, arrested
development has another series! I hoped it did, the last one didn't resolve
anything so I was confused, did it just get canceled before they could? But
I guess not.
Two calls today. The guy from last Thursday, having trouble with printing
already. And the guy who got the mac mini before I did, he wants to burn a
CD? Why? Who uses them anymore? Do you even have an external unit to use?
We'll see what he says when I talk to him.
Meanwhile, the future. Looks like I'll need to do my paperwork right at the
end of the month because my annual sales tax is due. Shouldn't be too
painful to figure out.
Tomorrow- looking over the test plan for Monday so we can get to work, if it
comes in the morning that is, which it may not. Seeing my parents, shopping,
no bank I only have one check I think. Yup, one. Then back for the miracle
game which at the moment is on this week. May be quite snowy tomorrow, yay.
Saturday is Sean's for sure, the monster game where we go after the guy that
replaced the guy that was giving us orders. It will probably go perfectly.
So printer guy was fine, it should have worked the icon was there, it was
USB port, but nothing came out. No error either. Great. I took it out and
let it reload and it was fine. Odd.
The other guy didn't know what he was talking about. He wants to download
some audio and play it. So I'm going there weather permitting to show him
how to use iTunes.
Looks like we can wave goodbye to Feb. See you all in March!
