2018-05-18:

Went out to the party. Had some pizza, stayed and sat there as the people got louder trying to hear themselves talk and decided enough was enough. I want shopping and came home.

Checked my sites, put stuff away, then made some phone calls. One setting a password for the car guy, as the settings no longer opens I guess? I did it through the command line instead. Stupid windows.

And one getting firefox to open, maybe it was preference file corruption? Hard to say. Those both took some time.

And someone dropped off cookies!

Started chapter 7, got maybe half done with it? It's a combat, and it's going about as I expected. Ultimate Clary is pretty ultimate, and she's done one of the two things I wanted her to. Now to start the second part of her attack.

Jobs tomorrow in the morning, and Sunday I'm going to the market with my family, haven't done that in a good many years.

But for now, sleep.

Sat:
Spent most of the day not writing, not enjoying myself, no. I was rebuilding a crappy vista machine. Yeah. I was this close to calling her and asking if she wanted the crappy Win7 machine another customer gave me because it was slightly less crappy. But I didn't.

My other job, dropping off the laptop, went fine but did run slightly too long. I got her stuff from the other one and sold her a backup drive. It's Win7 so it of course uses the crappy backup that runs weekly, but maybe it'll be better than nothing?

I did get snacks, so that's a plus.

There was some writing done, don't get me wrong. But not much.

Sun:
Happy Mother’s Day. Makes me kind of sad I’ll never be a mother. Wait a second…

Anyway, got up suuuper early but not as early as I might have oh, thirty years ago to go where we went. Clarence, and boy oh boy that place isn’t like it was. Most everyone was in sheds they could just open and show. The “outdoor” people were hardly existent at all. We used to walk around that place like all day, now it hardly took 3 hours. It the words of our president, “so sad.”
But it was fun walking around, didn’t see much I absolutely had to have (maybe a cute girl or two???) and then we went to the bins. No wait, then we bought cheese, and I got some too because we had gone all that way, hadn’t we? But then to the bins. Where my mother and sister bought cartloads of stuff. Huh. I got some Christmas lights to replace my rusted out ones, an old star trek manual from the 80s, a Christmas CD (I’m sensing a theme) and a redbox DVD I’m going to try and drop back into a machine for the laphs. We also saw a lady with a chameleon. Yeah, an actual lizard just hanging out on her arm. Wild.
Came back here, checked sites, ate dinner, the usual Sunday stuff. Oh, downloaded… I mean “got a preview copy of” Dr Strange which I never saw, and the new star wars because my father asked about it. Maybe I’ll have him over next week for that? Also tracked down the “shadowhunter codex” which answers questions about the technical aspects of the series, so I can intelligently address some things in the story. Research!
I do dread Monday coming on.

Mon:
Oh, I know what I have to do today. It’s finish up the 10x. Ugh. So I did that all day. Well, in the morning was meetings, the afternoon was the 10x. As I had to after work job I stayed an hour late and finished it. But I'm leaving an hour early Friday you better believe it. Oh yes, you better believe it.

Got back here, ate dinner, there were a few calls so I answered them. Password guy is back so I'm going over there tomorrow, where he works at 5:00. Then someone that moved and just need their stuff set up again Wednesday.

Checked my sites, got ready for tomorrow, and watched Dr Strange.

Tues:
Started the day off writing up the bugs I found yesterday. one was stolen, stolen I tell you, by another team member. Ah well, it's fine.

Looked at the latest AT&T build on the other machine I hadn't before, mostly just checking it over to make sure nothing was totally busted. It wasn't.

Then after lunch worked on FAX a bit, there were more spec changes made so I wrote up some new test cases. So boring.

Went out, got the password issue solved by blowing it away and letting him type a new one. No problem there.

Back here the PC had come in, so I had to get that started so it's ready to take Thursday. Talked to the lady I just reloaded the vista machine for about 45 minutes. AOL games uses both flash and java, what an unholy combination. She has to use IE and put the domain in the safe list to use it. Nice, it can take over her computer at will. Great.
Oh, and she had a ton of crap in it already, like driver finder, slim cleaner and a bunch of firefox addons. HOW? HOW?

The PC didn't want to find the drive, though diskpart could. Odd. Turned out it was because I was using the USB3 port, not the USB2 port on the PC. Because MS doesn't like things being fast, I guess? Had to look that up. So that took more time.

Not doing much writing today, I guess. Tomorrow, finish the fax stuff. Two places to go, I really hope both will be short. I really, really hope that's the case.

Wed:
It was a decent enough day, until it wasn't. That's usually how these things go, right?

Got Fax done in the morning, then loaded the new build. 4.0 at last. Started my resolved bugs. Added a little to chapter 5, something I had thought of reading the codex. Then back to bugs. Gina came to answer one of my questions and we looked over the fax server. I think we figured it out, so the tests pass, and it was basically time to go.

Went to "set up PC" which was not that at all. She needed a whole bunch of things done and that took me until about 6:00. I need to order her an HDMI switch box but I have the other cables she needs.

I then went over to the other one, "hook up a printer" and wanted to download the driver. Well, her laptop is getting about 2mb/sec while the laptop in the other room (further away) is getting 30. Huh? Her driver was from 2011 so I updated it. No change. I have no idea.

Did get one laugh. As I was driving home I noticed cars on both sides of the road, parked. I also noticed two cars approaching. Now my thought process is "oh, I'll let those two cars go, then I can go." Logical, right? Reasonable, yes? Apparently not for the TWO morons behind me, who as I pulled over a little passed me on the left, heading straight for the two oncoming cars. Now what should have been a 5 second wait was a 30 second wait (my dashcam footage says so, not an estimate) as the morons now had to try and carefully weave between the oncoming traffic which was now stopped. My goodness I was laughing so hard, why are people so stupid?
Here's today's tip of the day for today: If someone is doing something a tiny bit strange, ask yourself why that might be. Maybe, just maybe, they have a good reason for doing that thing and instead of just blindly doing your own thing and maybe smashing your car up, look ahead and maybe realize that slightly odd thing is actually a very sensible thing.

You won't ever do this? Okay then. That's fine.

It's too late now but I do have video. I'll see about posting it next week. Hey, something to look forward to!

Finally got home after 7:00, no calls, thank goodness. Ate dinner, checked my sites, got ready for tomorrow.

Thurs:
I knew it would be bad, but not 4 hours bad. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Started the morning writing a program to take the excel spreadsheet that goes on for miles and make it more convenient to use so the test I need to run is easier. It went great! It wasn't slacking off at all, it was legit Xerox business. Hey, did you hear we have a new CEO? It's true, we do. So new. So now. Wow.

Anyway, went to some meetings, got the program done, imported the data, and tediously started to run the test. Yay.

Then went to deliver the PC. Four hours later at 9:00 I finally got home. I forgot her stupid address book, I always forget that! Ugh, I hope Thunderbird can import it.

Let's see, it was about as horrible as I expected, let's not dwell on it. I'm back now. I have 40 minutes, I didn't get anything done, at least she wanted 5:00 so I came home to eat dinner before I left, so I'll check my sites and go to bed. Yay.

Next plans: Bank and shopping tomorrow, still no parents. May have dad over to watch the star wars movie, we'll see. Then two for Saturday so far, a haunted fax machine??? And York.

And that's it. Not a great week, honestly, not a great week at all.

See you all next time.
