Fri:
Jobs! How many, and what did I do? I'ma tell you.
Just a few little things for the first job. Had to unplug the guy's printer because it wouldn't shut down. Plugged his speakers in, did a general scan. No real issues.
The oddest Internet issue for the next one. The machine fully believed it was still on RR even though it was now on frontier DSL. I had to force the IP address to get it to be recognized, and it still believes the host or whatever ipconfig calls it is rochester.rr.com. Bizarre. Reset his dropbox password, got him a document from dropbox that vanished mysteriously, that sort of thing.
The afternoon two were a bit of follow up for the guy hopefully buying the iMac and some general issues across a couple of machines at 2:00. Apparently skype has dropped support for all but 10.9 which is odd, and of course the laptop was running 10.8. I would have started the install, but she's going to Russia soon so I turned on file vault in case the laptop gets stolen. I didn't want to start that encryption process, then install a brand new OS, then try and get back to the encryption. I have to go back to maybe put in a new router for them anyway. Checked their PC, sold them a new camera as the mic on the old one seemed to not work, general stuff.
Saw my parents, came home and won Last Dream. Fought the super end boss, apparently the normal end boss comes back if you beat the four super bosses (like I did.) Having put the game back on normal difficulty it was a challenge.
Sat:
Bought ingredients for browny sundays, then made browny sundays. Made more guns. The mixture wasn't setting at all. I had to put it in the car, in the sun, with the windows rolled up, to get it moving. I realized I wasn't mixing it well enough, because I mixed the heck out of it for the last one and it basically hardened in the jar. So there's a fine line between mixing too little and too much. In any case, they finally all hardened so I have four copies to clean up now when it's slow. Still have half the mixture left, too.
Went over for game. Which got derailed again because Other Sean once again played disaster strikes. Of course, there I was trying to research the means of getting us out of the Demon World but we had to get attacked, twice, sorry, three times, the final time a hoard of oncoming creatures we couldn't possibly deal with. Apparently Sean didn't want me researching the means of moving back and forth between dimensions? And then forced us to choose the "services" of a shady demon we really didn't feel right trusting to get back home? I mean I appreciate him saving me the 5XP, but taking up the entire night with combats and totally not getting to the plot we've been heading towards for the last three meetings when the "disaster strikes" could have easily been "you're in the demon world now." "You've been attacked by whatever was in this spot." "Okay the Artificer came up with a new ward, you're now back on Earth." That would have taken a fraction of the time, still been a disaster, and we could have gotten on with it.
But whatever. We got XP out of it, so that's good, right?
But the brownie sundays were delicious. Oh yeah.
Sun:
Did whatever came to mind. Brushed the cats. Did some reading, started "The Magicians" and a little reading of stuff Stan gave us.
No calls today, unless you count the Cincinnati OH call.
MRSI from Cincinnati, OH which is a marketing and research company. Huh. On a Sunday at 12:00?
Mon:
Pretty normal day, did two jobs. Did the shopping as normal, no troubles there.
Then thought my 12:00 was at 12:30 so I was half an hour late. Sigh. Set up her new iMac and got everything transferred over. Oddly the auto transfer didn't work, it just got the fact the account existed and then stopped. Odd. Had to copy everything manually, which worked.
Then over to a place where someone was trying to set up a new screen. Somehow they caused some disk corruption, but running chkdsk and the vista "repair" actually worked, and it was okay. They had tried to set up a monitor just by pulling the one out and putting the new in, with the machine still running. Silly rabbits.
Then did some reading. Not too exciting, I know.
Tues:
Even less exciting today. Only did one job, a cleanout right in the morning that only took a half hour.
More reading. Helped a guy over the phone and called a guy from last week I never got hold of. He wanted tomorrow though, and I did get a few calls today.
Which I did over the phone, meaning I just have the guy I talked to today, who just needs his paypal password reset. Guess last week wasn't the start of a great August.
Worked on the guns, got the knife work done, scraping off what I could of the sticking out bits. Just need to do some rotary tool work, set up my vacuum and glasses and mask for that.
Otherwise more reading. Just at a low drive point at the moment, I guess. I do that, write in spurts.
Messed around with the printer again, changed the two cartridges that are not printing. They must be really clogged, not just empty. Tried the wet paper towel trick, cleaned the little sponge off, nothing helped. In fact the others got worse! They all now have a gap in them. So what is next for this stupid thing I do not know.
Rainy.
Wed:
Only one job, just the paypal guy. Answered some questions, no real troubles.
Reached someone from a couple of days ago, but he said he's just going to buy a new laptop instead of having his looked at.
And did some painting. Didn't get far, the paint didn't want to stick to the surface for some reason. It ended up okay once it dried and I could put down a second coat, but still, it was pretty strange to see.
Some calls, I have two for tomorrow. Setting up a new machine and replacing a mouse. I had three, but that was moved to Friday. So… yeah.
And more reading. The story I'm reading is the Looper MLP story, in case you were wondering. It's over a million words long, that's why it's taking me so long.
Thurs:
Light duty again today, as my morning one canceled on me. Well, postponed until tomorrow, anyway.
Went and bought the mouse for the guy. Somehow the Staples branded mouse was $12.99 (or so, I forget) for the corded version, but only $9.99 for the cordless version. What, is that strand of copper really worth the extra cost? I don't get it.
Then set up the mortgage guy's new machine. Also got another laptop there from another guy he just wanted wiped and reloaded. So I did that when I got home.
Did a bit more painting, more reading.
A few calls today. Have two jobs tomorrow, one first thing, one way too late, as I figured, sure, why not go do a job at 6:00 on a Friday night. I have no life, so, yeah. Oh, and I made an appointment for one two weeks from now, so, yeah.
Game Saturday, hopefully finally beginning the adventure two months in the making. Picked up a job, setting up a router and updating to X 10.9 for the people last week. It would have been tomorrow, but he thought he had gotten the router, but he hadn't. He got something else, which was not the router.
I did get a check in the mail from someone I helped over the phone, so that was nice.
I also sold (and took a loss on) that weird power supply I tried to use for my Makerbot Replicator. Boxed and sent. Hope it works out for you, new buyer.
No visitation tomorrow, my parents are at a watch show. (my mother is no doubt thrilled. Wonder if she brought the books of mine she hasn't read yet to pass the time?)
Still taking fleas off cats.
Guess there's not much else to tell. Hope your August is going well, it's about half over, you know?
