2010-06-10:
The holdup now? No one knows their passwords, of course, while the guy with the email detailing the place to go get the passwords is... on a plane.
Wonderful! So even though the machine is ready to go, without the password there's no new mail, making it useless.
So I got my adapter back in the morning. Quite the house her boyfriend has. Gave her a brief tour of the Mac, and sent myself on my way. To get gas. Which I forgot last night, to my shame. $30 for a tank of gas, *shakes head*. I miss chibi-kuruma.
Next was a lady with some issues, I mean her computer, and two ugly dogs. How do you breed dogs that ugly, anyway? Thought she might have a hardware problem, it was shutting off right as it started to boot. I did the only thing I could and ran a chkdsk, which thankfully solved it. Then she had a laptop that wasn't able to login. Something about the profile. She didn't have internet access, so I had to bring it home to look it up. It was just a registry issue, of course, gotta love that registry! So it didn't take me long once I found it.
Over to the mortgage place, plane, right. Then to see Lou, who forgot how to use his floppy drive. No, I'm not kidding. He still uses a floppy drive. Which he forgot how to use. How does this guy cook his morning toast without electrocuting himself?
Home! I straightened out the basement a bit. Took one of the racks I had superstore stuff on and made that hold all my vintage video game systems. Hooked up an old half working VHS to the old analog TV via coax cable (the only connection it had) so I could hook my playstation up to it (via RCA) and maybe play FF7 sometime again. Thinking about
making Aerith for a Paragon game got me started thinking about it again. Also rearranged some tables so now all my tools are up off the floor. Quite a bit tidier, I must say.
Called in my phone buzzing problem. It's a very annoying sort of buzzy noise in my phone, that's been slowly getting worse, until today I said to myself, "self, your phone line should not be this noisy!" I checked the message the vet left on 4/29 to the one left on 5/27 and you can just hear it on the first one, then a bit more on the next, and now it's so bad I can hardly hear the other person. Which might be good in some ways.... They will be here to check it out on... the fifteenth. Five days? How many people do the telephone company have working for them, anyway? Six? And with everyone moving to just cell phones, you think they would be mostly free. That makes me wonder, in 50 years, will new houses be built without inside phone wiring? Hummmmm
Then back out again. Another laptop, this one with a similar problem, but I didn't realize that. He had two accounts, and the one he was using was a normal user. So it would ask for the Admin's password, take it, but not do the thing it was supposed to be doing. Odd. So I got around to logging into the other account, and low and behold, it was the same freaky message as the laptop this morning! So I knew just what to do! Fire!
I mean, registry! Somehow though in fixing the problem he went from having two icon pictures to click when the machine was booted, to only seeing the last one logged in, to seeing just a space to type the name. Huh?
I HATE WINDOWS.
Came home, supper. Not many calls. I called laptop lady and she actually came to pick it up, saving me driving, thank you. Did another darkbolt character template, the sort of person that calls upon power by manifesting something, like a shadow in Blue Dragon or a Stand in
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
